Firefighters from Salford, Eccles, Broughton and Moss Side were called to Duchy Road, Salford, last night, Sunday 8 May after receiving reports of a large tyre fire.
The blaze created a large smoke plume over the Salford skyline, but firefighters soon had the incident under control.
Five fire engines are using two hose reel jets to fight the flames and have the incident condensed into two manageable sectors.
Local residents were advised to keep windows and doors shut as they tackled the fire.
Watch Manager Minto had stated: “We’re currently tackling a fire involving a large quantity of tyres in Salford. Despite having the blaze under control we would advise anyone who lives locally to keep their windows and doors shut until the smoke lifts and where possible try and avoid the area”.
