Salford’s Dementia Champions are pioneering a groundbreaking idea to mark this year’s Dementia Awareness Week.
‘Embracing the Dementia Challenge in Salford’, a half-day event to show what a person’s journey through dementia might look like, will be livestreamed from the Lighthouse business park in Eccles on Monday 16 May and has been completely co-produced by people living with dementia.
People can also use the hashtag #saldementiaweek to comment on the event live on Twitter.
@SalfordCCG and @InstforDementia are expected to livetweet throughout.
Approximately 2,250 people in Salford, and 30,000 people in Greater Manchester are living with dementia.
Watch the livestream on Youtube here from 10am on Monday 16 May
Attendance is free for any Salford resident living with, or who has an interest in dementia.

The event will be held at the Lighthouse Venue, 12 Centenary Park, Coronet Way, Eccles, M50 1RE, from 10am to 3pm on Monday 16 May.
Pat Foy, a member of Salford’s Dementia Champions Group and chair of the Carers and ex-Carers Support Group, said: “This event will be an opportunity to spread the word about all the great work going on in Salford for people living with and affected by dementia, including carers and how they can benefit from it.
“The event will bring together carers, agencies and people with dementia to support each other and help find the answers they need.”
Natalie Yates-Bolton, interim director of the Salford Institute for Dementia at the University of Salford, said: “Through our Institute for Dementia, we are leading the way to help people understand how to live fulfilling lives with dementia – which affects thousands of people in Salford and millions around the world.”
Dementia Awareness Week is a national campaign organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, which will this year run from 15–21 May 2016.
