Deer rescued from canal at Boothstown by plucky bystanders


A deer that had fallen into the Bridgewater canal near the Boothstown Marina was eventually rescued after frantic attempts by a cyclist who dived in to the canal assisted by a man with a pole, and a man with a lasso.

The incident occurred on Saturday 14 May, 2016 at 5.30pm.

Eyewitness, Maxine Abberley from Mosley Common who was walking her dog along the canal said.

“They eventually caught it and got it out, a cyclist got very wet as he dived in, also a man with a lasso and one with a pole helped in the rescue.

“The poor thing was exhausted but was pulled out on the Worsley side of the canal, not Boothstown sidso it stumbled off, shattered into the wood
