The new Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett is to join business and community leaders in Ordsall this week to discuss Salford’s economic future.
‘Salford: The Future’ takes place at Ordsall Hall on Thursday 19 May from 12 noon to 2.30pm.
A panel of experts including Alison Page, Chief Executive of Salford Community and Volunteer Service, and Peter Holbrook, Chief Executive of Social Enterprise UK will explore the big challenges facing the city and how local organisations can work together to continue to grow Salford’s economy.
Salford is the first city in the North West to gain Social Enterprise status – but can these groups really fill the gaping holes in the city’s budget left by central government cuts?
What will Salford look like when austerity is complete?
Social enterprise will play a big role, this is for sure.
One in seven of all new business start-ups are now social enterprises and they are already playing key roles in the management of the city.
A number of high-profile social enterprises, including SalfordOnline.com, The Big Life Group and mental health arts charity Start in Salford are taking on more local authority work.
There are also the part-private/part-public groups which have grown out of the public sector, including Salford Community Leisure, which now runs most of the city’s library and leisure services and health group Social adVentures.
