Return to the Carpet for local Northern Soul fans

Northern Soul devotees will once again converge into Blackpool this Bank Holiday Sunday to raise money for Cancer Research UK as they dance on the famous Comedy Carpet in a bid to create a new world record for the most people dancing at an outside event, called Return to the Carpet.

Last year £11,000 was raised by these dance fanatics at the inaugral bash organised by Little Hulton man, Phil McDougall.

SalfordOnline spoke to Phil who told us, “You can guarantee that almost everybody you know has had a member of their family affected by this terrible disease, in my my family my mother, father and sister have been affected.

“This is our way of raising much needed cash for Cancer Research UK who do such a great job”.

The event will take place at the North Pier starting at 2.00pm and running until 6.30pm.

The devoted soul dancers will be showing their moves from 2pm – 4pm and its hoped that they break their last years record of 1,200 dancers taking part in this dance marathon.

A donation of £5 is asked for a pink wristband which gets you free entry into the raffle which has some great Northern Soul prizes.

The wristband will also get you discount drinks at Yates Wine Lodge after the party on the Comedy carpet has finished, but the day doesn’t end there as top Northern Soul D.J.’s will be spinning plenty of classic tunes late into the night.
