Salford Community Leisure are contenders to win a prestigious national business award – Growing Co-operative of the Year.
Salford Community Leisure manage over 40 different venues on behalf of the people of Salford and for the benefit of over 100,000 members now Local residents can help them win by voting in their favour.
“I don’t think that many people will appreciate that Salford Community Leisure actually is a co-operative,” commented Chief Executive Steve Hassall. “Every pound profit we make is re-invested back into the facilities that are available to members. We are very proud of our status as a co-operative which means we are run by and for the people of Salford and our members are at the heart of the organisation. We are also a registered charity.”
“Since we started in 2003 we have invested over £4million into our sport, library and cultural events and facilities which have dramatically improved in those 13 years. Over the years hundreds of dedicated employees and volunteers have worked tirelessly across our venues and this nomination is in recognition of their efforts.”
Established to enhance the physical and cultural wellbeing of the community, Salford Community Leisure now has nearly 3.5m annual visits, while membership has risen from just to over 100,000. SCL is a signatory to the Salford Social Value Charter and committed to a set of principles for being social in Salford and working towards increased community strength ad resilience.
