The 4×4 was fitted with a vehicle tracker and its theft alerted police, who gave chase, finally locating the culprit 10 miles away at Junction 3 of the M66 at Pilsworth, Bury.

The fleeing driver was cornered by traffic cops at around 9.45pm.

He abandoned the car and escaped on foot but was brought to the ground by a police dog who local police report bit the offender on the rear.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 22-year-old man has been arrested, and has now been charged on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.
