Salford pupils raise vital cash to help Ebola-hit kids

Salford students have linked with Sierra Leone to help an entire class of children affected by Ebola get back to school by raising £500 for Street Child charity.

Pupils from Buile Hill Visual Arts College in Salford scrapped their uniforms for the day and wore green, white and blue, the colours of the Sierra Leone flag.

They raised nearly £500 for the charity Street Child which will help 25 children go to school for a whole year.

Head teacher James Inman said he was delighted that so much money had been raised.

“Street Child started in 2008 when Sierra Leone was the poorest country in the world. Since then they have supported over 20,000 children to get education so when they asked us to take part we were only too pleased.

“Our school motto is ‘opportunities for all’ and taking part in something like this really opens our pupils’ eyes to how other children around the world live and how important education is to all of us – but particularly children in deprived countries.

“They dressed to impress and I’m very proud that our school has been able to help this worthwhile cause.”
