Police are trying to trace a good Samaritan who came to the aid of a man found with a serious head injury on Oxford Road.
At around 4am on Wednesday 29 June 2016, a 41-year-old man was found collapsed and unconscious on Oxford Road outside St Mary’s Hospital.
It is unclear at this stage how he had sustained his injuries.
The good Samaritan, having seen that the 41-year-old was in dire need of medical attention, flagged down a nearby taxi and got the driver to phone for an ambulance.
But having seen that the ambulance was on its way, he left the scene.
The injured man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition in an induced coma.
Now detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding this man’s injuries would like to trace the good Samaritan who potentially saved his life.
He is described as white and in his mid-thirties.
Detective Inspector Brian Morley said: “At this stage we have not been able to ascertain whether this man was the victim of an assault or had an accident.
“We have spoken to the taxi driver, but we really now need to speak to the person who first came across the injured man while he lay unconscious on the floor.
“His actions potentially saved this man’s life, as who knows how long he could have lay there before somebody else found him, and by then it could have been too late.
“If you were the person who flagged down the taxi, please call us, or similarly if you were in the area at the time and believe you have any information which may assist our investigation please do not hesitate to contact us.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 761/290616 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
