National Killing Day

On a day when the UK government have declared killing legal, James has the sudden urge to pay his ex wife a visit…..

National Killing Day, a new play by Lee Clotworthy explores a nations moral codes. Anyone is allowed to ‘slay’ one person, for a large fee and endless paperwork of course……….but do we actually want to?

Annoying as the next man can be, could everyday civilians kill and keep a clear conscience? Do the media share the same sentiments as the general public? Are we THAT gripped by fear that we bide into this terrible notion or do we stand together to do the right thing? What do you think?

With a cast of nine join James, and the ghost of his best friend Peter as he traipses across the breadth of Britain to ‘make amends’ with his recent ex wife…and her girlfriend. Whilst exploring his internal moral dilemma he meets others along the way who are also searching theirs…..but with consequences. Meet 64 year old Phyllis and her husband John who are the rock in their community, the cheery, poetic Father Jacob with blood-stained hands and brothers Dave and Anthony who try to amend their sibling rivalry on today of all days.
National Killing Day
Originally a short film in 2008 for Virgin Media Shorts competition, ex-Carpenter (trade, not the pop group) Lee Clotworthy adapted it for the theatre years before any of ‘The Purge’ movies made an appearance. Lee lived in London for several years and still appears in many TV and billboard commercials throughout the UK and Europe. Theatre always has and always will be his passion after performing in shows in London such as Uncle Vanya, The Tsaravitch and the Wolf, pantomime tours and local/European tours of ‘They Were All Some Mothers Sons’. Gingerlee Does It Productions is a new Liverpool based theatre company with this show being it’s debut. The cast are based up north and are originally from all different parts of the country.
