Two boys, 14 and 16, arrested after pupil stabbed outside Salford school

Two teenage boys have been arrested and bailed after a schoolboy was stabbed in the leg outside a Salford school.

Police and paramedics were called to Ellesmere Park High School off Salisbury Road at 3.25pm on Tuesday 12 July.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the boy was knifed in the thigh.

In yesterday’s initial report it was not known whether a weapon or some other more minor implement was used in the attack.

Paramedics stopped the bleeding from a puncture wound before taking him by ambulance to Royal Manchester Children’s hospital.

Two boys, aged 16 and 14, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm/wounding with intent (Section 18 assault).

Both boys have been bailed until 5 September 2016 pending further enquiries.

One is understood to be a former Ellesmere Park High School pupil.

The school is in a safe, quiet and leafy area and the news came as a huge shock to parents.

One who did not want to be named said: “My daughter saw this as she was coming out for the day.

“She saw blood on the floor and teachers picking the boy up and helping him into the car park.

“I was told he’d been stabbed three times in the leg.

“Some mums are talking about there being no teachers outside the gates after school these days.

“They do stand outside in the mornings but after school they’re only at the school doors which are across a big car park.”

School activities were ongoing as normal on the Ellesmere Park playing fields after school on Tuesday and staff were quick to downplay the incident.

In a statement sent through Salford City Council, headteacher Heather Aaron said: “It was an isolated incident.

“Staff dealt swiftly with it and the boy is recovering well.

“Police are satisfied our procedures worked well and are investigating.”
