Fire breaks out at Little Hulton petrol station for second time since April

Fire crews from Farnworth and Bolton were called to the Cleggs Lane Service Station after fire was discovered there in the early hours of this morning.

Four firefighters in breathing apparatus found their way to the top of the Little Hulton petrol station and discovered part of the roof on fire.

Residents reported seeing a police and fire service presence on Cleggs Lane near the Stumble Inn pub at around 2am on Friday 15 July.

Smoke was seen pouring from the roof and was still smouldering by rush-hour on Friday morning.

No-one was hurt but the cause of the fire is not yet known.

The petrol station was hit by an arson attack in April which saw the roof collapse and fears that the blaze could spread to nearby petrol pumps.

A black-clad figure was seen running from the station in the aftermath of the earlier fire.

At the time, firefighters had to force access through metal shutters, finding a well-developed fire in the Best One shop.

They feared if the flames had spread they could have ignited the petrol pumps nearby, but crews managed to dampen the flames within 15 minutes of arriving at the scene.

Fire crews returned to Cleggs Lane this morning to check that the petrol station was structurally sound and safe to re-open.
