Salford mother of two Wendy Wroe intends to go a yard further on Sunday when she runs in a 5k in Heaton Park to raise money for a charity that has done so much to help her son Mackenzie, aged 9.
Mackenzie, who attends Lark Hill Primary school in Salford, has had a difficult time in his young life, he was born with a hereditary heart defect and had open heart surgery when he was just 16 months old.
Sadly he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukeumia in 2013 and has been having chemotherapy treatment at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, due to finish next month.
SalfordOnline.com spoke to Wendy who told us: “Mackenzie is a wonderful son and I am blessed to have him.
“After all the treatment he has had to endure in his short life, I feel that I too can handle anything life can throw at me.
“He is treated at Ward 84, which is a cancer ward at the hospital, and so it seems apt that a group of us have used that as our team name.
“I have set up a Just Giving page and I am asking for people to donate just a pound each to help me raise my goal of £150.

“I have nothing but praise for the nurses there, the job they do is amazing and they are brilliant with these young children who are in there.
“This Sunday you will not be able to miss me as I will be dressed in a green tutu, green t-shirt and yellow leggings!”
“s I approach the finishing line, Mackenzie will run the last few yards with me and we shall cross the line, hand in hand.”
Despite having a heart condition herself, Wendy aims to smash her previous best of 36 minutes and has been in strict training, when time allows, but with determination like hers, I’m certain she will do it.
So please click on Wendy’s page and donate a quid for such a great cause, you know it makes sense.
