Brave Noah plans baked bean bath for charity

A Swinton boy facing brain surgery this summer is raising money for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital by taking a plunge into a bath of beans.

Noah Reah, 8, will bath himself in the back garden of his home at Lawn Drive, Swinton, on 25 July to raise money for up-to-date MRI and X-ray equipment on the ward.

The St Mary’s RC pupil said: “I’ve got to sit in a bath in my back garden and people are going to pay money to pour beans over my head – but that’s okay because I like beans.

“I want to raise £1000 and I’ve so far raised £700, so I’m not far off.”

The eight-year old is sadly no stranger to the MRI centre as he suffers from a rare type of brain condition called Chiari Brain Malformation. Noah is set to have brain surgery in August to help his condition.

Doctors will remove a blockage from his spine to alleviate the pressure build-up.

Noah’s mother, Joanne, 41, said: “Chiari Brain Malformation means that the lower parts of the brain are pushed downwards towards to the spinal cord which blocks fluid and builds up pressure in the brain.

“This affects his balance and motor skills and is really uncomfortable for him. The operation in August won’t cure him but will make him much more comfortable though he may have to have it again some time in the future.”

Noah is on target to raise £1000 for the hospital but needs all the help he can get. For more information or to donate go to his Just Giving page.
