With around three weeks until school children across Greater Manchester return to the classroom, parents are being urged to apply for cheaper travel for their children on public transport.
Transport for Greater Manchester’s (TfGM) popular igo pass can be used on all buses, and on Metrolink, in Greater Manchester, proving that the owner is 16 or under and therefore entitled to a cheaper fare than a full adult ticket.
The application process for the igo pass can take up to 10 days and people are encouraged to complete an application form as soon as possible to make sure they can use the lower fares when travelling to and from school.
There is an administrative charge of £5 for the pass and it’s valid until 31 August after the user’s 16th birthday.
If requested, the igo should be presented to a driver or member of staff along with a valid bus pass, or Metrolink ticket.
Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “We are working hard to make travel easier in Greater Manchester. One way we do this is by providing concessionary fares so that it is cheaper for young people with an igo pass to travel.
“By ensuring young people aged 16 and under have affordable fares, we hope to encourage them to use public transport more regularly.”
Parents and pupils will also soon be able to check the yellow school bus service timetables for the academic year 2016 / 2017 on the TfGM web site. The September timetables will be published within the next couple of weeks.
