Great British Greyhound Walk 2015 – 1000’s of hounds putting their best paws forward!

Greyhounds, lurchers and their owners will be putting their best paw forward on Sunday 21st June to celebrate the fifth Great British Greyhound Walk (GBGW).

Hounds and humans will be walking simultaneously at a number of parks, woods, beaches and heaths up and down the country. We have numerous walks already confirmed in places as far afield as Aberdeen, Belfast, Manchester, Swansea, Lowestoft and Plymouth, not to mention St Helier in Jersey, Alexandra Palace in London. We hope to have a walk taking place in just about every county by 21st June.

Makants Greyhound Rescue would welcome local sight hound owners to join in the walk, which this year is starting at The Moorings Pub, 2 Quayside Close, Boothstown, Worsley M28 1YB.
Emma Bewley said “This is the 4th time I’ve arranged a walk for GBGW and we’re hoping for a huge turnout of local sighthounds. The idea of the walk is to particularly celebrate retired racing greyhounds, to raise awareness and promote them as wonderful family pets once their racing days are over”.

“Greyhounds make great companions; they adore human company, are gentle, docile and loving and walk really well on the lead. Contrary to popular belief, greyhounds don’t require much exercise just two 20 minute walks a day suits them but of course they enjoy longer walks too.”
“We would be delighted if local greyhounds, lurchers, other sighthounds and their owners joined us on the 21st to help us make the Great British Greyhound Walk of 2015 even more successful than last year. Our walks starts at 11am from The Moorings Pub, Boothstown and will last about an hour. There is no need to book, just turn up but anyone can call me on 07771 990800 for more information.”

The Great British Greyhound Walk has it’s own Greyhound Ambassador, there are competitions to enter via our Facebook Page and Website and there will be fantastic merchandising on sale soon.

Janet Peacock, founder of the Greyhound Walks charity who along with her team of volunteers masterminded the first GBGW in 2010 said, “Last year (2014) we had record breaking 3370 hounds out walking in the UK and for the first time, 529 in various locations across the world. Quite an achievement! So this year we are aiming even higher and are hoping to get well over 4000 dogs and their owners walking on the 21st of June. All of the 2015 walks are listed on our website www.greatbritishgreyhoundwalk.org.uk.”
