Peel Park, Salford will be turning pink and proud later this month, Sunday July 26 as up to 2000 picnickers descend on it.
The historic park is once again playing host to the Pink Picnic – the biggest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender events in Salford.
And this year there’s a competition to find the best pink themed picnic as well as the Pooch Pageant to find the best dressed dog.
The annual event, which started in 2011, is organised by ‘Out in Salford’ – the city’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) network which is supported by Salford City Council. The growing network represents LGBT residents across the city.
Councillor Paul Dennett, strategic assistant mayor at Salford City Council, said: “It’s a great day out for everyone, with music, stalls and activities for children. It’s fun, flamboyant, friendly and free – though everyone attending will be asked to chip in what they can towards the running costs.”
Among the highlights of the day will be performances from 80’s sensation Hazell Dean, “Everybody’s Free” hit artist Rozalla, No Idea, Gifford, Roxy Hart and the Lady Bears of Leeds.
The event will also feature music by Gaydio and Mint Dj Mark Jones, food vendors and a beer tent.
The picnic starts at 12 noon in Peel Park, next to Salford University on The Crescent.
