Police warn of distraction thefts in Manchester city centre

Police are investigating after a number of distraction thefts in Manchester city centre.

Between 23 June 2015 and 4 July 2015 a man approached a number of people as they sat at table in coffee shops and restaurants in the city centre.

He placed a map over their mobile phone whilst asking them for directions.
When he left, he took the map, concealing their property.

Police have now issued an image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

Police Constable Dissington said: “The image has been taken from Starbucks, Fennel Street on 1 July 2015 and it is very clear.  We believe someone may recognise the man and I would ask those who do, to please contact police.

“I would also urge anyone who has been targeted in such a way to call us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
