Watch: Danger Mouse to return to BBC, scored by Salford music firm

Children’s classic cartoon Danger Mouse is to return to TV screens in September 2015 with a new musical score by Salford-based Composerworks.

30 years ago Danger Mouse and Penfold fought the evil villain Baron Greenback in the spoof spy thriller.

It became one of the most popular children’s cartoons in history with 21 million people a week watching the five minute episodes.

The series was originally broadcast between 1981 and 1992 with Only Fools and Horses star David Jason famously voicing the lead.

In the 2015 revival he’s been replaced by the Pointless game show host Alexander Armstrong, with comedian Kevin Eldon of Brass Eye and The Day Today fame voicing Penfold. Armstrong’s Pointless co-host, human stat machine Richard Osman, will play Professor Strontium Jellyfishowitz.

Stephen Fry will also take on the role of the pair’s gruff boss Colonel K, while Game of Thrones megastar Lena Headey will play new character Jeopardy Mouse.

Composerworks, which is based at Washington House at MediaCityUK in Salford, have updated the legendary theme, “jump-started for the 21st century” and sung by vocalist Philipa Alexander.

Composer Sanj Sen, whose previous work includes The Moshi Monsters movie and the four-part CBBC drama A Long Long Crime Ago, will produce what he calls “a supercharged score” across all 52 of the new 11-minute adventures.
