Top 5 things to do in Salford this weekend


School’s out for the summer, so here’s five interesting things to do in Salford this weekend.

Ordsall Festival – Saturday 25 July – 12pm – 4pm

A traditional family festival in the heart of Ordsall with bouncy castles, face painting, stalls and displays, music and candy floss.

Salford Triathalon – Sunday 26 July – 9am – late

Whether you are an experienced triathlete or a first timer making your debut in this fantastic sport, this is the race for you. With distances ranging from sprint to standard including the standard team relay option, there is definitely something for everybody.

The flat, fast course takes competitors through the MediaCityUK complex and around the iconic buildings of Salford Quays.

It’s also exciting for spectators, with the transition area on the Piazza at MediaCityUK.

Dogs in Salford Festival – Sunday 26 July – 11am – 3pm

Join Salford Dog Wardens for their first ever festival at Clifton Country Park!

The festival includes a dog competition, agility course, free micro chipping, free vets checks, a display from HM Prison Service dogs, rescue stalls, Barking Berry’s Bakery, a pamper van as well as fun activities including bouncy castles, face painting, pony rides, poster competition and balloon modelling.

The dog competition costs £1 per entry and the categories are Waggiest Tail, Best Handler Under 12 Years Old, Prettiest Girl, Handsome Boy, Best Scruff and Golden Oldie (for dogs seven years and older).

The winners from each category will then be entered in to the Best In Show. Each winner will receive a trophy, rosette, certificate and a prize for the dog.

Race For Life – Sunday 26 July 12pm – 5pm

Slimming World does Race for Life event at Parr Fold Park in Walkden.

Pop down to the park to give your encouragement to Slimming World members joining together to raise money for Cancer Research.

Peel Park Picnic – Sunday 26 July – 12pm – 7pm

Salford’s largest LGBT event, Peel Park Pink Picnic, is back for it’s fifth year. The main stage will see performances from Gifford, No Idea and the 80’s sensation, Hazell Dean.

Following last year’s success the Pooch Pageant is back, looking for the best-dressed dog.

A great day for all ages with a selection of stalls, beer tent, food vendors, bouncy castle, go-carts and a petting zoo. And don’t forget to enter your pink-themed picnic for the Campest Picnic Competition.
