Two seen running away from Little Hulton arson where 54-year-old mum hospitalised

Police are appealing for more witnesses to come forward after a 54-year-old mum was hospitalised in an arson attempt on a house in Little Hulton.

It’s thought two people seen running away from Ellesmere Street shortly after the fire started may be the culprits.

At around 9pm on Thursday 17 July two wheelie bins in the back garden of the house were set ablaze and pushed towards the rear of the house – the fire quickly spread towards the back door.

It set off a smoke alarm which alerted the woman and her two teenage children, who were all inside at the time.

The 54-year-old suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Royal Bolton hospital.

She was lucky not to be more severely hurt.

Police are treating the fire as arson with intent to endanger life.

Three fire crews from Eccles and Agecroft stayed at the scene for two hours to reassure residents.

Officers are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them as soon as possible.

Detective Constable Derek Nellany said: “This was a reckless act as the owner was inside the house with her two teenage children but thankfully they got out.

“From what we have been told, two people were seen running away from the scene shortly after the fire started and I would appeal to anyone who saw them to call police.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
