77-year-old Gerry Mason, the founder of Salford recruitment and engineering firm, Morson, passed away peacefully on Friday 24 July.
Mr Mason founded Morson in 1969 at the age of 30, running the business from his family home in Eccles, Salford.
A father of four and a grandfather to 13, he was known as an active supporter of local, national and international charities.
He retired from his day-to-day role in 1998, but remained an active member of the company board right until his sudden death.
His son Ged Mason has been CEO of the company since 1998.
On behalf of his family he said: “It is with a very heavy heart that I have to inform you that my father Gerry Mason has sadly and peacefully passed away at the age of 77.
“In the eyes of my family, friends and colleagues my father was a legend, held in high esteem by so many.
“Morson’s standards today are based on the strong principles and core values he set for us. He ensured that integrity, quality and hard work are woven throughout the company’s fabric.
“His drive and desire for the company to be the best, through hard work and commitment to excellence throughout the business, was matched by his sense of fun and its value in business – and at home.
“My father leaves behind a legacy of a solid, thriving and very successful, industry leading business.
“On behalf of all the Mason family I personally thank everyone for their kind wishes and words of support which have been very comforting to our family during this difficult time.”
Morson, the company he started 46 years ago, now employs more than 800 people in the UK and overseas and has won awards for its recruitment and engineering work.
