Paul Massey shot dead: No arrests yet, Manchester Road remains closed


Police are in the early stages of a murder investigation after local man Paul Massey was shot dead at his home in Clifton, Salford, late last night.

Officers said this morning there had been no arrests as of yet.

An update on the investigation along with a full press conference is expected at around 1pm today.

Armed officers swarmed to the scene of the shooting on Manchester Road in Clifton at around 7.30pm on Sunday 26 July.

It’s understood the 55-year-old was in his garden when he was shot and sadly died at the scene.

Mr Massey is expected to be formally identified this afternoon. A post-mortem will follow.

The A666 Manchester Road was cordoned off and closed near St Anne’s Church.

The cordon remains in place this morning, Monday 27 July. Traffic and public transport are being diverted.

Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson said: “People will understandably be alarmed when they hear about this incident which we believe was a targeted attack.

“I would like to reassure the public that we have a heightened level of police officers in the area tonight while we establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.

“We are actively following a number of lines of enquiry however, I would urge the local community to come forward if they saw or heard anything in the area.

“I urge anybody with any information about what’s happened tonight to come forward. I want to stress that any information received will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
