Schoolboy guitarist Joshua Hart used his musical talents to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice as a thank you for nurses caring for his grandma.
The 12-year-old played his favourite songs at a party held to honour Annie Hart, from Wardley, who died just four days later on Thursday 30 July.
Joshua, a pupil at St Ambrose Barlow RC High School, also raised £110 by entertaining visitors at the Summer Fair at his old primary school St Charles RC in Swinton.
Annie, who was 84, wanted to celebrate her life with her family and friends while she was still here, and described her function as an ‘Awake Wake’ party.
Family and friends gathered at the Isis Restaurant, Pendlebury, to give her what turned out to be a rousing farewell, raising £550 for the hospice where Annie was a day care patient.
Josh’s proud parents Maria and Keith said: “We’d like to thank everyone for their kind and generous donations and especially the Friends of St Charles and head teacher Clare Campbell for allowing Joshua to play at the fair and raise money for St Ann’s Hospice.
“We’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone who gathered at the “Awake Wake” fulfilling Annie’s wish to see all her friends again – it was an amazing day and one which will be treasured forever.
“The family would like to pay a warm tribute to mum and grandma Annie who was a very special person and would like to thank St Ann’s Hospice for their care during her illness.”
The party was supported by Swinton companies Asda, Morrisons, B&M Bargains, Specsavers, Quality Save, Boots, Chappells Butchers, Matalan, Wynsors and the Isis Restaurant, plus Tesco Express in Wardley.
