Time running out to nominate your Salford community heroes

Time is running out to nominate your community heroes for a prestigious award.

Salix Homes is appealing for nominations for our eighth annual Salix Stars Awards, but the deadline for nominations is this Sunday, August 16.

The awards recognise groups or individuals who go the extra mile in their community and are making a difference to the area where they live.

Lee Sugden, Salix Homes chief executive, said: “We’ve had some truly inspiring nominations in so far and it’s very humbling to hear of all the wonderful work that is taking place in our communities across Salford.

“If you know someone who deserves to be recognised for all they do to help others then I urge you to nominate them for a Salix Star before it’s too late.

Salix Homes is bringing back the Spirit of Salford Star to this year’s awards, which will be awarded to an inspirational individual who encompasses the city’s true spirit.

Last year’s winner was mum-of-two Keri Muldoon, from Lower Broughton, Salford, who fought tirelessly to save the Sure Start Children’s Centre at Riverview Primary School, Lower Broughton, from closure.

Speaking after she was crowned the Spirit of Salford, she said: “I have grown up in this area and anything I can do to help the kids of Lower Broughton I will do it. I will give everything I’ve got to Salford because I love this city.”

The other categories include Aim High Star, Shelagh Delaney Creativity Star, Young Rising Star and Best Green Star.

The awards, which are supported by lead sponsor A.Connolly Ltd, are open to anyone living in a Salix Homes’ neighbourhood.

The ceremony takes place at The Lowry, Salford Quays, on Friday, November 27.

To nominate someone call Sarah Mcnally on 0161 779 8028 or email salixstars@salixhomes.org
