Two sisters have raised more than £2,000 for a cancer charity after completing a gruelling 26-mile walk in memory of their father.
NatWest relationship manager Janet Wedderburn and her sister Jackie Taylor completed the Trans-Pennine Trek to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support which supported their father Richard Stansfield who sadly died last year following his battle against cancer.
The walk, which took place on July 18, started in Hadfield and ended in Sheffield, and took Janet, of Little Hulton, Salford and Jackie, of Whitworth, Rochdale, nine hours and 45 minutes to complete.
To prepare for the event, the sisters completed a 10 week training programme which included sessions which saw them walk for eight hours in one day. Janet was supported by her NatWest colleague Helena Lord (job title) with some of her training when Jackie was unable to meet her.
Janet has completed a number of charity activities with her team at NatWest including climbing Snowdon, the Manchester 10k and the Race for Life, but her she said her latest endeavour has been one of her toughest to date.
Janet said: “It’s been an incredible journey to complete this charity walk, and I know my father would be very proud of both of us. Jackie and I dedicated hours to training but the experience of completing the walk and the sense of achievement was incredible.
“We want to thank everyone who have supported us including Helena who kept me company on some of those long walks when Jackie and I were unable to train together, which was wonderful of her. We greatly appreciate everyone’s generosity and kind donations.”
