Narrow lanes and overnight M60 closures at Swinton for £462k safety project

Transport bosses have advised drivers using the M60 between Swinton and Prestwich that the motorway will be closed overnight to complete a £462,000 project to install new safety barriers.

The scheme between Junctions 15 and 17 started on Monday 2 March and is scheduled for completion on Tuesday 31 March.

Temporary safety barriers and narrow lanes have been installed and these will be removed at the weekend and early next week.

The carriageways will be down to only one lane again overnight on Saturday 28 March (anti-clockwise) and Sunday 29 March (clockwise) with full overnight closure of the clockwise carriageway on Monday 30 March and the anti-clockwise carriageway on 31 March.

Highways Agency project manager John Lyssejko said: “This is an important project to replace the steel safety barriers in the central reservation over the Robin Hood and Irwell Valley bridges.

“The planning for this project has been co-ordinated with the Manchester Smart Motorway and we have maintained four lanes in each direction of the motorway.”
