The English Cities Fund (ECf) has announced it is to invest £1 million in new events space and marketing suite at New Bailey in Salford.
The 1,400sq ft building will be located next to One New Bailey, the 125,000 sq ft eight-storey office block on the site of the former Ralli Courts on Stanley Street.
Contractor Bowmer & Kirkland has been appointed by ECf to deliver the space. Work starts on site in early August with completion due in mid-October.
One New Bailey was passed for development by Salford City Council in May 2014 and construction is expected to be completed by May 2016.
Phil Mayall, development director at New Bailey, said: “Because of its location, New Bailey is the perfect place to showcase a brand new events programme for the people of Manchester and Salford.
“We have been engaging with people and organisations on Twitter since we started on site and we are planning further campaigns on social media in the coming weeks so we thought it would be a great way to launch the new events.”
New Bailey consists of vacant land around Salford Central station opposite Manchester’s Spinningfields business district.
In January 2014 ECf agreed £60m of forward funding from Legal & General Property for One New Bailey and a nine-storey NCP 615-space car park on Irwell Street.
