Salford student makes history with momentous A level results

18-year-old Avantika Phaltankar from Worsley is among the high flying ‘Class of 2015’, at Manchester High School for Girls, having secured a string of straight A*s in Business, French, German and Maths.

She will now progress to UCL to study European Social and Political studies.

Avantika commented: “I am delighted with my results and looking forward to heading to UCL to study something I have a real interest in. I would like to work in a non-governmental organisation in the future so this is definitely the right stepping stone in that direction for me. I will miss everyone at Manchester High, I have studied here since the age of 11 and it is like my second home.”

Mrs Claire Hewitt, Head Mistress at Manchester High School for Girls, said: “Year on year Manchester High girls achieve some of the best examination results in the country and our alumnae include highly influential women who lead the way in their chosen fields. Be it business or politics, engineering or medicine, fashion or languages, Manchester High girls really do go on to build amazing careers.

“The fact that this year’s Senior Sixth have secured the best A-level results in our history leaves me in no doubt that these young women, like Avantika, are the leaders of tomorrow. Not only have they applied themselves to their studies but they have embraced the many extra-curricular opportunities available, from sport and charity work to music and the arts.”
