Danny Webber struck the winning goal for Salford City as they continued their unbeaten start to life in the Northern Premier Division with a 2-1 win at Mickleover Sports.
The first half saw little action, but Jordan Hulme opened the scoring shortly before the hour mark, only for Nico DeGirolamo to equalise minutes later.
However Webber sealed the points after latching onto a through ball from Hulme, which he placed past the Ross Atkins.
The Ammies made a slow start on their second trip to Derbyshire this week.
They almost went behind early on after midweek hero Chris Lynch bumped into Steve Howson, leaving room for Simeon Oshoboke to shoot from the edge of the area, but Jay Lynch was alert to the danger and got down low to his left to make the save.
Webber had a fantastic chance 10 minutes in that was denied by Atkins’ legs, although how much the Mickleover keeper knew about it is debatable.
Chances were few and far between in the first half with Mickleover arguably on top in terms of possession, but neither side managed to find a rhythm and half time came as a blessing both to the players who were visibly tired in the humid conditions.
A timely summer storm made the playing surface more kind to The Ammies, who managed to more successfully play their own passing game, although it was a more traditional Route One move that saw Gareth Seddon nod the ball down to Hulme, who turned well to fire past Atkins and score his first of the season.
A lapse in concentration from a cross into Salford’s penalty area gave seasoned striker Gary Ricketts the chance to nod the ball to the back post, where an unmarked DeGirolamo drifted in to tap in the equaliser.
A quick counter-attack and a killer ball from Hulme was enough to finish Sports off though, as Webber also scored his first of the season to move The Ammies up to fourth in the table.
