Folly Lane split the Atoms

By Daryl Fairhurst

Folly Lane kicked off their De La Salle debut with a gritty win over Heysham Atoms, to put them on a good footing to kick on their season.

The visitors raced to an 18-0 lead using the full width of the pitch, but Folly showed some great determination getting back into the game.

Folly Lane got a foot hold with a try just before the sending off of Heysham’s second rower who felt he could take matters in his own hands following Aaron Hall’s tackle.

With the visitors being down to twelve men Folly sensed the game was in their hands with two further tries before the break with Heysham also scoring a further try, leaving the score 16-24.

Try scorers for Folly were Damian Blake, Aaron Hall and Jay Boyd.

Folly Lane kicked on in the second half with Rob Foxen showing class on the wing and scoring a second half hat-trick to put Folly out of sight.

Further tries came from Jay Boyd and Aaron Hall, who both scored their second tries of the afternoon.

Lewis Lockett had a mixed afternoon with the boot kicking 4 from 8 leaving the final score 40-24.

The game was extremely well attended by club members of both Folly Lane and De La Salle.

It was great to see so many of our Folly Lane juniors in attendance getting more exposure of Rugby League, not to mention the parents who all seemed to be having a great time soaking up the sun and having a pitch side drink!
