Witness appeal after man racially abuses female staff at Manchester Piccadilly

Police are looking for a man who hurled racist and homophobic abuse at a female staff member at Manchester Piccadilly station.

They believe the man in the picture can help them with their enquirires.

At around 9.30am on Friday 31 July the female security staff member was checking tickets at Platform 13.

A man came out of the lifts but when the woman asked him to show her a valid ticket, he launched a tirade of abuse at her.

The shouting continued as he left the station at the Fairfield Street taxi rank exit and crossed the road towards the Macdonald Hotel.

Investigating officer PC Hannah Williams said: “The staff member was subjected to vile abuse while simply doing her job; no-one should have to put up with this.

“Any kind of hate crime will not be tolerated anywhere on the rail network.

“We believe the man in the image could have vital information about the incident and urge him or anyone who recognises him to come forward to assist us with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference PSUB/B5 of 25/08/2015.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
