Police are warning the public about a man with links to Manchester who absconded from prison in Buckinghamshire yesterday.
John Rooney, 47, is described as white, 5ft 8ins, slim, with brown hair.
Thames Valley Police say there are “substantial grounds for believing Rooney represents a risk of harm to the public”.
He was serving a 27-year sentence at HMP Springhill in Aylesbury.
He left the prison at 6.30am on Monday 24 August when he got a lift to Bicester and was last seen at 7.05am on a bus travelling towards Oxford.
He has tattoos on his left arm, his left wrist, hand and fingers, as well as on his right hand and letters on his right fingers, and a scar on his right hand. Tattoos on his face may not be clearly visible.
When he left the prison he was wearing a blue top, blue jeans and was carrying a bag.
Members of the public are advised not to approach him but to call 999 immediately.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Joe Banfield said: “Thames Valley Police is working closely with the Prison Service to try and locate Rooney.
If you are reading this and have any information whatsoever about Rooney’s whereabouts then please call police via 101.
“If you don’t feel comfortable speak directly to the police then you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
