Salford business takes on Sage CEO in Great North Run

A local Sage software specialist is aiming to beat the CEO of the global accounting software provider at this year’s Great North Run for the benefit of Cancer Research UK, as it enters members of its own senior management team.

Salford – based K3 FDS has entered a team of three into the event as it aims to raise money for Cancer Research UK. And in a quirky twist, Sage CEO Stephen Kelly has promised to donate an extra £2 to the charity for every minute that a registered colleague, supplier or business partner finishes faster than him. With three in the race, K3 FDS is hoping to significantly increase Sage’s existing fundraising total of £380,000 and help make the fundraising sums add up from the event on Sunday September 13.

Andrew Fox, Managing Director at K3 FDS, Danny Broxup, from the company’s Presales Team, and Mark Buckle from FDS’ Technical Support Team, are all training for the Great North Run and hoping to force the Sage CEO to put his hand even deeper in his pocket as the two companies embrace healthy competition.

Andrew Fox commented: “Sage’s pledge to donate more money to Cancer Research UK for every partner, colleague and customer who finishes ahead of him is a fantastic commitment in aid of a very worthy cause. We’re used to working very closely alongside Sage so it will be very interesting to be competing against them for a change, and we cannot wait to see who comes out on top.”

The Great North Run is the second largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in North East England each September. It sees participants run between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields over a distance of 13.1 miles. The K3 FDS team has been in training for the event for the last few months and, as Andrew Fox reveals, its participants will be taking inspiration from last year’s winner, Mo Farah, as it aims to beat the Sage CEO.

“At K3 FDS we’ve been training hard and taking inspiration from some of the country’s most famous runners in order to best prepare for the event. We’ve not set any targets for completing the course, we’ll just be looking to finish ahead of Sage themselves and help to raise even more money for Cancer Research on top of the £380,000 that Sage has already raised; a truly phenomenal amount of money for a truly worthy cause.”
