WOMEN across the North West are being urged to grab their last chance to enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at Tatton Park as there are just two weeks left until registration closes.
Nearly 1000 women have already joined a ‘pink army’ ready to take on cancer on Saturday 5 September and there are just 500 places left in the Pretty Muddy event.
Entry closes on Thursday 3 September and organisers are encouraging mums, daughters, grannies, sisters, friends and workmates who want to take part in the women-only Pretty Muddy obstacle course event to sign up as soon possible at raceforlife.org.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, marathon and Pretty Muddy events which raises millions of pounds every year bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured.
Laura Taylor, Event Manager for Race for Life in the North West, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life events in Cheshire. But we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up as soon as possible.”
In 2014, 6400 women took part in Race for Life in Cheshire and helped raise an incredible £300,700 for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work. This year, the charity hopes the 9,800 women who have entered both the June and September events will hit a fundraising target of £680,000.
By raising money through Race for Life, people in the county are helping Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists make advances in research which will help more men, women and children survive.
Taking part in Race for Life, alongside thousands of like minded women, is incredibly motivating. The atmosphere at all the events is full of emotion as participants wear signs on their backs declaring their reasons for taking part. Many will be remembering loved ones lost to cancer or celebrating the lives of people dear to them who have survived.
She continued: “Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast. You can walk, jog, or run around the course if you like. Because these events are all about the feel-good factor that comes from being part of the ‘pink army’ as thousands of women come together to defeat cancer.”
Women can boost their contribution to Cancer Research UK’s work by doing a ‘wardrobe work-out’ before their event. The charity is encouraging them to sort out and bag up hidden treasures such as quality clothes, books and accessories they no longer use and take them to the Donation Station at Race for Life. Each bag of goods could help raise up to £25 for groundbreaking research, even more with Gift Aid.
Every participant receives a donation bag, along with a Gift Aid form, as part of their Race for Life entry pack. Just by completing the form and popping it in their bag, women can boost the value of their donation by an extra 25 per cent.
Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for its ground-breaking research but with help from the people of Cheshire the charity intends to beat cancer sooner.
