Salford Sports Network celebrated the incredible achievements of sportsmen and women at the 2015 Sports Awards dinner in Worsley.
Around 80 visitors watched as coaches, players and sports clubs were highlighted for their impressive work in their local communities.
The event was hosted by special guest Paula Dunn, former GB Athlete and now Head Coach for British Athletics.
17-year-old athlete Naomi Ogbeta took Sports Acheiver of the Year.
Ogbeta, who competes for Trafford AC, has had a stellar year which has seen her leap to the top of the UK U20 rankings in triple jump.
A career best 12m 98cm at the England Athletics Championships in Bedford in June has put the Salford City youth councillor on track for future Olympic stardom.
Steve Guy, who won Volunteer in Sport of the Year award with his work at Cadishead ARLFC said: “I feel humble and excited at the same time.”
Cadishead were also runners up in Club of the Year to Irlam Vale AFC, who picked up a share of £1000 in the process.
Club secretary of Irlam Vale, Jim Corbett, commented: “It’s a great achievement for everyone in the club.
“Overall in Salford it’s clear that football is growing in the area.”
With the rapid rise of semi-pro heroes Salford City FC, who have reached the second qualifying round of the FA Cup, it would be hard to argue.
Irlam Vale’s Chairman Fred Caterall also won the Unsung Hero in Sport Award to top off a magical year for the club, who have also been awarded FA Charter Standard Community Club Status, the highest FA accreditation.
Mark Chew, from awards organisers Salford Community Leisure, said: “Salford Sports Network provides support for sports clubs across Salford and one of the benefits is to increase participation by getting more young people and adults involved in community sport.”
All the winners from the event will now represent Salford in the Greater Manchester Sports Awards on Friday 20 November at Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
