Driver injured as van topples on M602 at Eccles

A driver was lucky to escape serious injury when his van overturned on its side this morning, Wednesday 1 April, on the M602.

Police, fire crews from Eccles and Leigh and an ambulance were called to the eastbound motorway at 8.35am between Junctions 1 and 2 near Monton Fencing.

The driver of a Fiat Scudo 109 van overturned in the outside lane of the carriageway, closing two lanes and blocking rush-hour traffic for around 45 minutes.

Firefighters initially thought the man was trapped in his vehicle but he was freed from the van and treated by paramedics at the scene.

His injuries were not serious.

No other cars were involved and it is believed the strong winds may have been a factor in the accident.
