Organisations across Salford are joining forces to help keep people safe.
The Pendleton Home Watch Scheme is hosting its fifth annual event in Salford on Wednesday, October 7 to mark National Personal Safety Day.
National Personal Safety Day is organised by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, an organisation created by the parents of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh who disappeared in 1986 and has never been found.
Their mission is to campaign, educate and support people to help reduce the risk of violence and aggression for everyone.
This year’s theme is #keepitREAL and focuses on young males in the community who are most at risk from violence and aggression.
Graham Worrall, Pendleton Home Watch co-ordinator, said: “This annual event aims to raise awareness of simple ways to keep safe and avoid violence, helping you to feel more confident and safe in your community.
“We know it’s common sense to take certain precautions, however common sense is not always common practice, so we will be offering tips and advice to help keep the people of Salford safe while out and about.”
Housing association Salix Homes is one of the agencies supporting the event and visitors will be able to meet representatives from its anti-social behaviour and 1st Response teams, who provide round-the clock surveillance at tower blocks across Salford.
Warren Carlon, head of operations at Salix Homes, said: “National Personal Safety Day is a great opportunity to pick up useful advice on personal safety and keeping safe in your community. I’d urge everyone to come along and meet the agencies that are helping to keep Salford a safe place to live and work.”
Rachel Griffin, director of Suzy Lamplugh Trust added: “Through committed partners like Pendleton Home Watch, National Personal Safety Day provides key information and tools to help people live safer, more confident lives. We are delighted that Pendleton Home Watch is celebrating its fifth year of helping to raise awareness of personal safety in their community.”
Other agencies who’ll be on hand to offer advice include representatives from the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, Pendleton Together, Greater Manchester Police, Salford City Council, CrimeStoppersUK and Victim Support. Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Jim Battle will also be stopping by to talk to visitors.
The free event is taking place at the Pendleton Together housing office, Brotherton House, the Boardwalk, Pendleton on Wednesday, October 7 from 10am to 3pm.
