Police were called to Half Edge Lane in Eccles at 7.40am today, Tuesday 23 February, after receiving reports that a female had been assaulted by a male passerby.
The woman was walking down the road when the male approached her from behind and attempted to drag her into an alleyway.

She managed to fight off her attacker by screaming for help and the male fled the scene.
Police have set up a cordon around the scene and extra patrols are scouring the area.
