Man found hiding in cannabis farm in Swinton house

Police have arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of cannabis production after he was found hiding in the loft of his house surrounded by mature drug plants.

Officers executed a warrant on the house on Blantyre Street in Swinton at 10.40am on Friday 31 July.

The suspect had barricaded the front door with a sofa to try to stop officers gaining entrance.

GMP Salford West posted on Facebook: “15 cannabis plants were found in the loft of the property. All have now been seized and taken away to be destroyed”.

The 34-year-old was questioned before being released on police bail.

The raid is not thought to be connected to a shooting on the same street in Swinton a week earlier.

A masked man was spotted fleeing Blantyre Street late on Wednesday 22 July after a house was blasted with shotgun rounds.

Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101.
