A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was attacked and stabbed multiple times in Clifton, Salford.
SalfordOnline.com broke the news early this morning that a 38-year-old was fighting for his life in hospital after suffering a series of stab wounds on Silverdale in Clifton last night.
The victim was surrounded by a gang of offenders and repeatedly beaten and stabbed.
He remains in intensive care with a serious head injury, stab wounds and a broken arm.
Police arrived at a grassed area on Silverdale, known locally as the black paths, at around 1am on Tuesday 4 August to find the man bleeding heavily in the street.
Forensics officers cordoned off the scene to comb the area for clues.
Police were running fingertip searches of the grassed area throughout the day today.
The Clifton stabbing is not being treated as linked to any recent shooting incidents in Salford, including the murder of Paul Massey.
Officers said the investigation was “fast moving” and enquiries were ongoing to identify a number of other people thought to be involved.
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Clare Devlin from GMP’s Salford division said: “I am very aware that our communities in Salford are understandably extremely anxious at the moment, as they hear of numerous serious incidents that have happened in the area over the past few weeks.
“I want to try and update people as much as I can to try and allay any rumours that may be circulating.
“This is an isolated set of circumstances surrounding this attack and it is not being linked to the murder last week or any other incidents.
“However, this does not detract from the fact we have a man lying seriously ill in hospital after he was stabbed and clearly we are treating this incident with the utmost importance.
