AFC Monton Club report

By Ron Hodkin

FBT Manchester League Premier Division

AFC Monton 0 Prestwich Heys 1

Table topping Prestwich Heys kept their remarkable unbeaten run intact with this win at AFC Monton despite being second best for the majority of the game.

The visitors settled well and played with smooth efficiency for the opening twenty minutes but Monton kept to their game plan and started to probe Prestwich’s somewhat static defence. A good move after thirty minutes saw the Ammies carve open the visitors defence and Ben McNamara was desperately unlucky to see his final lobbed shot just clear the crossbar with the keeper stranded.

A goalless first half with neither keeper really tested led to a more exciting second half as Prestwich took the lead with a quick break which caught Monton napping on fifty five minutes but from that moment on the Ammies took control of the game and had Ben McNamaras shot which hit the Prestwich post or Adam Tse’s fantastic free kick which hit the Hey’s crossbar gone in the result would have been different.

Monton should take pride and confidence from this result even though it was three points dropped and look forward to their next fixture away at Boothstown FC next Saturday.

FBT Manchester League Division 2

Prestwich Heys reserves 2 AFC Monton reserves 1

Prestwich achieved the double over Monton with this reserve team result. A newly shaped Monton side took some time to settle but played with good tempo and confidence for the majority of the game. This was certainly a step in the right direction for Monton and they should take pride in their performance against the current division leaders.
