AFC Monton Club report

By Ron Hodkin

FBT Manchester League Premier Division

Boothstown FC 2 AFC Monton 2

AFC Monton made the short journey to local rivals Boothstown and returned with only one disappointing point to show for their unusually lacklustre performance. Both sides made a pedestrian like start to the game with only Monton’s live wire Mike Gill prepared to run at the Boothstown defenders so it was a blow to the Ammies when Gill had to be substituted through injury after only twenty five minutes.

The first breakthrough for Monton came after Adam Tse was clumsily fouled in the home teams penalty area and Nathan Bond converted the resulting spot kick on forty minutes to give Monton a half time lead.
The re-start saw Boothstown increase their tempo and effort and they found their equaliser on the hour with a quick break and great finish by their number nine.
Worse was to come for the Ammies as a brilliant individual run by the Boothstown left winger and a teasing cross was swept into the Monton net to give them a deserved lead just ten minutes later.
With Monton now chasing the game Monton introduced Matty Campbell and the effect was almost immediate as a fine through ball by Ben McNamara was well controlled and coolly finished by Campbell to rescue a point for Monton with only two minutes left to play.
Overall a well deserved draw for both sides but a dent in Monton’s drive for a believable title attempt.

FBT Manchester League Division Two

AFC Monton reserves 1 Walshaw reserves 2

AFC Monton reserves hosted a strong Walshaw reserve side and despite playing well for the majority of the game ended up with nothing to show for their efforts.
