AFC Monton Club report

By Ron Hodkin

FBT Manchester League Premier Division

AFC Monton 0 Old Alts 1

AFC Monton faced a revitalised Old Alts side in this fixture and ended the game with nothing to show for their efforts. Both sides made a cautious start to the game and goal scoring chances were few and far between but a free kick for the visitors just two minutes before half time saw the ball take a wicked deflection off the Monton defensive wall and squirm into the net to give them the upper hand.

The second half saw the Ammies increase their efforts and they started to dominate the possession but Old Alts kept their concentration and team shape to make the game as difficult as possible for Monton.

A great strike from Monton’s Nathan Bond after seventy five minutes beat the visitors keeper but struck the goalpost and cannoned back into play and had they equalised at that stage Monton may have gone on to win the game, especially as they had two late penalty claims denied which on another day may have been given.

Overall a disappointing result for the Ammies but had they had a slice of luck they might have achieved a fair result.
