Tonight at 6.30pm, the North West’s biggest free firework display returns to intu Trafford Centre with more than 10,000 people expected to descend on Barton Square.
The display which lasts for 20 minutes is the region’s biggest free firework display and takes months of planning and preparation to create.
Hours of choreography goes into the music choice and setting up the 1,800 synchronised fireworks lighting up the Manchester sky during the display which is cleverly co-ordinated to five different songs.
The display features approximately 750 KGs of explosives and uses one mile of wire to co-ordinate the 537 individual pyrotechnic items and 203 ignitions. In total it takes the team around 40 hours just to set up the exciting display.
The show kicks off at 6.30pm when Aleesha Jones from Orrell in Wigan from intu Trafford Centre charity Once Upon A Smile will be pressing the button. Once Upon A Smile supports children of the region who have suffered the loss of a parent or sibling. The charity receives donations from its Fountain Fund to carry out the great work it does empowering children in a time of need ultimately giving them more confidence to get through a difficult time.
Richard Paxton, General Manager for intu Trafford Centre said: “We’re really excited about the North West’s biggest and best free firework display on Sunday. Each year it gets bigger and better and the planning which goes into producing this show is mind-blowing but the results are undoubtedly spectacular.”
