Police have issued two e-fits of suspected thieves after a man was conned out of tens of thousands of pounds.
Sometime in April or May 2015, a man knocked on the door of a home on Granville Street, Walkden, claiming the owner needed work carrying out on his roof.
He told him it would cost around £60,000 to fix the tiles and although the victim said he did not want the work to go ahead, the man convinced him it needed doing.
The victim was repeatedly contacted by phone over a period of two months up until June where he handed over thousands of pounds without any evidence of work taking place.
One man is described as being of mixed race, 5ft 6in tall, had short black hair and stubble on his face.
The second man, who was present when the money was handed over, is described as being white, in his mid-30’s, 5ft 9 to 5ft 10, of slim build, clean shaven, had deep blue coloured eyes, a pointed chin, always wore glasses and said he was called Simon.
Police Constable Sarah Langley said: “The victim is a vulnerable 63-year-old and these men have taken advantage of the trust he has shown in them.
“The man has been able to supply us with enough detail to create an efit and I would ask anyone who may recognise them to call us. Have you also fallen victim to them or have they knocked on your door? If so, please call us as soon as possible.”
