Salford City are aiming to break a club record with an eighth consecutive win at Burscough on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
In a revolutionary season that has seen Salford move from strength to strength it would only be fitting to finish on such a high, although the ultimate goal is another club first: promotion to the Evo Stik First Division Premier League.
The only question that remains is whether that will be as champions, or through the play-offs, and all Salford can hope for is Darlington to slip up against an in-form Lancaster City or at Warrington on Tuesday night, as well as capturing six points from their remaining games.
The Ammies have been glad of a week off for the squad to refresh after the Easter period, and coaches Johnson and Morley have a fully fit side after Jordan Hulme’s return last week.
Gareth Seddon has seven goals in his last five appearances so should keep his place spearheading Salford’s attack.
Burscough have come from behind to salvage a draw in their last two outings, and they too should have a fully-fit complement to choose from, with player-manager Mark Beesley facing a decision whether to play himself after four goals in five games.
Burscough won’t quickly have forgotten the last time they faced Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley – also in November – when the pair’s Ramsbottom won 5-1 in the Doodson Sports Cup, with Steve Howson, Grant Spencer and Jordan Hulme among the scorers.
With an average of 4.4 goals per game between the sides in the last five meetings, Saturday could prove to be a bit of a disappointment with so much at stake, and Salford’s impressive clean sheet record.
Both have previously stated how clubs do each other no favours in this league, but Salford can be record-breakers on Saturday with another win.
