A666 closed: Elderly woman hospitalised in Clifton collision

Police have closed the A666 Manchester Road in Clifton after an elderly woman was hit by a car.

Officers were called to the scene at around 9.50am today, Saturday 18 April.

The woman, who is in her mid-70s, suffered head injuries in the collision.

Update: After treatment at the scene the pedestrian was rushed to Salford Royal, but her injuries are not as severe as first thought.

The accident is understood to have happened at a zebra crossing near Lawefield Crescent.

No cars are being allowed to pass the scene in either direction towards Bolton or Salford.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “As a precaution we’ve secured the road for the time being.”

Any eyewitnesses are being asked to call police on 101.
