Penalty heartache for Winton Wanderers Under 11’s Girls

Winton Wanderers U11’s girls played Moorside in the return leg of their cup semi-final, the tie being all square at 2-2 from the first leg.

Winton carried on pressing and forcing Moorside into mistakes at the back and with a superb assist from Katie, Tagen grabbed a much deserved second goal midway through the first half.

The second half got under way with more pressure on the Moorside defence and more chances were carved out with Lucy coming close on a few occasions.

Winton didn’t start well, seemingly with a cup hangover they struggled to get into the first half going in at the break a couple of goals down.

The second half was much brighter though with goals coming from Lelan and Tyler being the highlight and, with regular goalkeeper CJ being away, Joel played his first game between the sticks and was voted Man-of-the-Match.

The U9’s played a very good Beechfield side. Both teams started on the front foot and created chances but it was Winton who opened the scoring with a goal from Rylea.

Winton pressed forward again finding the net with goals from Louis and great free-kick from Kai.

A Beechfield fight back was initially without reward as Will, Douglas and Cole were solid at the back making great tackles and blocks, eventually Beechfield pulled a couple of goals back but in the last few minutes of the first half it was Winton who scored again, Louis’ corner sailing straight in.

The second half started evenly, with Jordan working hard up front and creating opportunities for his team mates and Kai and Man-of-the-Match Rylea both scored again.

Beechfield hit back again setting up a grandstand finish in what was an end to end affair.

The final minutes of the game was lit up by some brave goalkeeping from Leon and in the last few minutes Charlie’s hard-work payed off when he played a great through ball to Louis who scored to complete his hat-trick.

The U8’s faced Moorside Green in the supplementary tournament and they started strong with a goal from Alex, Moorside created chances but it was Winton that scored again with another goal from Alex.

Both teams had their chances at the end of the first half, but it was Moorside who started stronger after the break and, despite some fantastic saves from Callum, Winton were reeling from a couple of Moorside strikes.

Winton however took control again credit to Leon’s hard work in the midfield, goals from Man-of-the-Match Jack and a super half volley from Kamari rounded off a fantastic performance, Alex also shared the Man-of-the-Match award.

In the U7s Development Group Green Winton Wanderers Spitfires put on a great performance against an outstanding Parkwydnn side.

Winton were two goals down early in the game, not the start wanted against opponents that are unbeaten all season.

Winton showed a great spirit, battling hard throughout the game and were a serious threat with quick counter attacks.

Parkwydnn scored a couple more times but with Oliver grabbing one for Winton the game ended with a more than respectable score-line.

Harrison pulled off a string of great saves in the second half and Ryan and Joseph both showed unrelenting grit in defence.

Morgan was voted Man-of-the-Match – a credit to his never-say-die attitude.
