Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was hit by a car in Leigh.
At around 12pm on Saturday 28 May 2016 a black Mercedes was seen travelling at high speed, veering in and out of traffic on the A580.
As traffic came to a standstill at the roundabout at the Greyhound Hotel, a driver of another car approached the vehicle on foot before the driver accelerated towards him.
Fortunately the man jumped out of the path of the accelerating car but another man was hit after it mounted a curb.
The Mercedes continued to drive with the man on the bonnet of the car for about 15 to 20 metres before he was thrown to the floor.
The man was taken to hospital where he was treated for a broken hand.
The car continued to drive erratically on the A580 towards Liverpool with a smashed windscreen.
A short time later the car pulled up at the Stone Cross junction of the A580 and the driver removed the number plates. A white BMW also pulled up at the junction and both drivers spoke to each other before they then travelled on Stonecross Lane South towards Winwick.
The driver of the Mercedes is described as a white man in his early 30s with black hair. He has a full beard, is of a large build and was wearing a white tshirt.
Detective Constable Lynsey Watson-Perry of GMP’s Leigh borough, said: “This is a horrific incident that left a man injured and a number of people distressed.
“It was a busy time of day and there were lots of other road users in the area at the time.
“If you saw anything which you think may help us with our investigation or if you know anyone matching the description, please get in touch.”
